20 Gedanken zu „Why is Persona 3 Portable on Switch Instead of P3 FES?“
  1. It upsets me this is what they chose to port. I remember seeing the sceenes as a teenager in fes. It was the first game i played where it felt artistic more than just a game. I feel like alot of the atmosphere was taken of of portable which is so much of why i played it.

  2. as a new Persona 3 player, my thoughts are ideally would have wished for FES animations, city life, and to experience the epilogue with portable UI and battle mechanics, but overall if i had to pick my poison of FES or portable, i still would pick portable for the battle mechanics

  3. Isn't it better to remake the whole P3P than just porting? I mean I don't see this as a bad thing tho. It just rather than remake the P3 only, why not remake the whole P3 series as one, include Female Protagonist and FES content but with Persona 5 graphics and menu.

  4. Funny how after learning about this it still doesn't feel right that they "remastered" p3p instead of fes. What they should have done is mixed both versions, give us a controllable party and the female protag from portable and everything else from FES
Sad they were so lazy with this "remaster" as well

  5. I can see why they chose this instead of that, and why they didn’t merge this and that into something complete, but I found FES cheap for PS2 and will only buy this if I finish FES and 1. I decide it’s worth replaying 2. a complete version isn’t available by then. I don’t buy things to support devs or to market test/incentivize the thing I wanted in the first place; I buy what I feel is worth my time. I realize my decisions only matter to me, but the video is about the reason for their decisions, and this comment is the reason for mine. Perhaps one or two other people have similar inclinations?

  6. I'm always surprised that among the many videos about this particular subject, no one seems to be willing to challenge the developper's claim about "not having enough space on a umd".

A UMD capacity is 1.8Go. Sure, it is much less than a PS2 DVD, even single layer as P3 was, and Persona 3 FES was 3.1Go. But the PSP also has a lower resolution (so less space necessary for some the assets), and as with most games of that era what takes the most space are the FMV which have been removed from P3P.

In the end, P3P is 1Go. Which means more than 1/3rd of the UMD is empty. This space could have been used to include either The Answer, higher quality models or, my personal preference, the real 3D environments instead of turning the game into 1st person visual novel. Even if disc storage really was that much of an issue (which I doubt) Atlus could have gone the Falcom (with Trails in the Sky SC) and Square-Enix (with FF Type-0) way and ship 2 UMDs.

Let's also not forget that the PSP runs games like FF Type-0, Kingdom Hearts BBS and two episode of God of War, among others. Persona 3 is far from being a demanding game in the first place, even on the PS2, so I don't think "lack of power" can be an problem.

Therefore at the time and even more now I fail to see how such a technically downgraded version can be excused.
