  1. Uh man smash is hard the very reason I am watching this video is because I don’t want to do physical damage to myself because I punched myself in the face because some guy beat me at A STUPID VIDEO GAME AND I DON’T WANT TO HAVE SEVERE BRAIN DAMAGE BECAUSE I’M BAD AT FREAKING SMASH OF ALL THINGS!!!!!111!!!!1!!!

I should get some help should I

  2. I do Z jump and XY grab. Took FOREVER to retrain my brain but was honestly the most tangible improvement I've ever felt in Smash. Being able to execute any direction aerial with the C stick without darting your thumb to X to jump is a godsend. Your air mobility feels improved tenfold.

  3. If you change your controls and haven't done World of Light and grinded the Spirit Board (plus Summoning, etc.), it's a pretty good excuse to kill two birds with one stone.

Forty hours of that slog will commit the new scheme to muscle memory, and you will get all the spirits too.

A lot of the World of Light battle mechanics are strange, so it's usually bad for practicing Smash in general. However, for something as basic as (re)learning the control scheme, it's fine.

  4. I have normal controls except I have tilt stick, stick jump off, and L and ZL both as jump, so if i press both at the same time I can short hop. Also I use the wireless Power A gamecube controller.

  5. I would choose the Switch Pro Controller because it works on all Switch models including the Switch Lite. The GameCube controller will only work on the GameCube, the original Switch and the upcoming OLED Switch.

  6. I actually like to map grab to the x button on the gamecube controller, that way my grab is right next to my jump (the y button). I remember my friends always bashing on me for doing this, but idk man it feels faster and more comfortable than hitting z for me.

  7. I set my attack button to y a long time ago because most of the games I played at the time used x on Xbox to attack or y to attack on switch. I haven’t played a single game with that attack since but I’ve kept my control like that since lmao

(I have a set to grab)

  8. Here’s my control map
(I use Dual Joycon, planning to get Pro Controller soon)

    Buttons And Analog
R Stick goes on Tilt for me
I have a very hard time trying to move the L stick slowly and knowing when to press attack
On the other hand, Smash Attacks are much easier for me to do and I can input them much faster
R Stick Tilt also helps me dash into Tilt attack, for when I’m playing something like Roy, or really any character with high end lag dash attacks
    X is jump for comfort
Y is attack for comfort, and because it’s near jump I can short hop aerial much better and it helps a lot.
A is Special, near jump for the same reason
B I don’t really care about, I just put it on Special if I miss input A, which barely happens.
    D pad I don’t use
For L and R/ZL and ZR I put Shield on L and Grab on R for comfort, as of other games I play, like Hollow Knight or Metroid Dread (specifically just Metroid, as you can’t change controls in that game) where L is a movement option while R is a type of attack.

    Advanced Settings
Rumble is off but I might turn it on just because I might be able to handle Rumble, but for now it’s off.
Attack + Special Smash attack is off
    Stick Jump is off
Stick Sens is on normal, I just don’t see the difference turning it low or high
    And I think that’s it.

  9. pro user here. first thing i did when first playing was remap b and a to jump, y to attack x to special. feels like playing a platformer. you automatically short hop when you press jump with either attack or special.

  10. personally, my 8bitdo snes controller is the best i've used. it has dual toggles like most modern controllers, i just prefer the shape since i grew up on snes. if you want something like the snes controller, i'd recommend that.
