  1. This is a fun surprise! One thing I really enjoy about a rao blind LP is how he sees things with like a newborn artist's eye. Stuff like the reaction to the art style and the quirks associated with it, noticing things like the lighting from the windows, and the appreciation of Bowser's showmanship and his castle's ball-and-chain maces are not things I see often.

  2. I remember when I first heard about this game, I was like "this sounds extremely lame and I'm going to ignore it." And then I tried it, and I was like "past me, you are an idiot and a clumsy oaf." And past me was thoroughly chastened and sulked back into the annals of history where they didn't have Paper Mario.
This one's pretty high on my list of RPGs I've enjoyed. It does have a few clunky aspects to it, but I'm pretty convinced it's an unwritten law of the universe that all RPGs must have clunky aspects, and overall the good far outweighs the bad.
Don't worry about missing too much – the game does have a non-negligible amount of optional stuff but nothing that's really critical to either the plot or your ability to play is missable at all, and the game does a fairly good job of herding you to the right place.

  3. Oh man, Paper Mario is one of the games I've been hoping Raocow would play for years; to hear he's going in mostly blind is delightful.
As far as emulation is concerned, the biggest issue I'm aware of – having experienced it myself years ago – is that a ~dynamic bar~ that's supposed to shift between yellow and red, is instead solid-red.
I could… probably just check the next video to see if it's still present, or not tbh (I hope they would have fixed it by now..)

  4. I genuinely wish for Rao to do all the Bowser dialog with his Bowser voice, but as I don't remember how much he actually talks in this one I fear that if he'd do he'd never talk again so I understand why it's not happening.

  5. (1:11) "Be my manual but don't be my guide" Ok!…
(2:29 to 4:36) …Wtf is this very spoily demo!?!? I understand the demo is to advertise the game, but 2 min of very short gameplays/cutscenes of several moments on the story is in my opinion too excessive…
(6:45 to 7:05) Oh, a town to explore. Too bad, the cutscene skips straight to the castle!
(7:09) Indeed Luigi, you were'nt here at Super Mario 64…
(16:23) Unfortunately, Mario forgot how to do otherwise than jump…
(16:31) …which forces him to take damage!
(17:49) Mario still doesn't know how to use itmes like bowser do.
(18:32) Wow Mario is super bad on paper mode! (Even without the star rod Bowser would have won.)
(19:43) The "Paper Mario" event has begun! Good Luck…

  6. Ahh, 22 years ago when Paper Mario was a great, brand new name. Not a washed out IP that got worse with every new entry. I just hope Origami King wasn't just a last flicker of life but the start of an long lasting upward movement that gets better again.

  7. I'm looking forward to your fresh look to this game. I only played it once on an emulator with controls mapped to keyboard, and even then it was fun. You saw a small glimpse of it, but the game really leans into the paper gimmick. This isn't a 2d world; it's a paper world.

  8. you know you getting old when you watch raocow again and find PLAYLISTS on the channel.
thank you for still being entertaining me and everyone after all those years, i havent been here for a while, but been subscribed to you for literally over a decade now.
    thank you!
