41 Gedanken zu „Laminated Game Boy Color IPS Kit (Funnyplaying Q5 v2.6)“
  1. Product page on Retro Game Repair Shop has the kit labelled as "FunnyPlaying Game Boy Color 2.0 Q5 IPS Laminated Backlight Kit" – safe to assume this is actually the 2.6 version?

  2. Can you test RGRS GBA battery mod it's not a clean juice or retromodding battery. I think it's unbranded. I have it but I don't know the specs and nothing is said on charge time or battery life. It almost feels like it takes 5-6 hours to charge.

  3. I got this kit 2 weeks ago (ordered directly from Funnyplaying as I'm the EU), and my LCD was pre-attached as well, my screen had a white lens. I installed it, worked right out of the box, very happy with the result. I had no idea I didn't have to solder the power wire though, I used your videos to help with the install 😀 Why are the uppermost vias the bad ones? I found them easier to heat up

I didn't know about the logo mode, I was hoping it would allow to only color in the "Color" portion of the logo. Too bad that's not the case

  4. I usually put the big piece on the gameboy side. I dont like to put sticky things on the screen as it can ruin the backlights. Say someone puts it on wrong and want to reposition it, you could easily break the fragile screen

  5. It's amazing how far GBC screen mods have come in just a few years. It wasn't long ago that BennVenn's tft display freckleshack was about the only backlit screen option available (for GBC). This screen mod is just awesome though, especially the laminated screen. Seeing that one dust particle under the glass on the screen is so annoying and now that's not an issue.

  6. This is by far my favorite kit on the market. My only gripe with it is that I have 3 that has a very subtle cloudiness from the glue they used to laminate the lens to the LCD. It’s in a different spot on each kit and it’s one of those things that once you see it you’ll always see it.

  7. I ordered a white one directly from funnyplaying on June 28th. Just checked and it is a 2.6 version. When installing I was wondering why all the videos showed having to solder the power as I tested the screen without soldering. This makes sense now.

  8. Makho, over the years of watching your videos you have shown me the better ways to solder, the better ways to screw into plastic and even metal by counter screwing until the click, but as a hobbyist fixer of gadgets I don't get to use these skills much, but the skill I use the most that I have learnt from you is how to open those tricky little ziplock bags without tearing them or ripping my fingernails out, so thank you for everything you have taught me.

  9. Thank you for posting this when you did! I just received my kit a few days ago and it is a v2.6 as well. Everything is working except the start+select short hold for the menu, solder joints look good but I'll have to open it back up and bust out the multimeter to check for continuity and see where the issue is

  10. A very important question: you didn’t solder the wire to the power button. In the kit that i have i have to do it. Can you tell me if the screen is as bright as when you solder the wire or it’s not so bright? Thanks a lot

  11. I hate those Funnyplaying kits to be honest. There's a relatively new kit that still has the color palette touch sensor and software menu, but also the new backlit logo. And it's NOT laminated, which I like better. You can bring the display closer to the glass screen with no gap (if you have a Funnyplaying shell).

  12. Ribbon version 2.6+ does not require soldering dude. You can just tap touch plate at the above to change brightness or hold it for change display filters. If you hold touch plate and select+start you can fix game boy color text below. Solder only when you want move the screen up/down/left/right.

  13. Really helpfull video. I am new to GB modding and I am a little bit confused. You didn't solder the orange touch sensor to the ribbon but you can still control the brightness by touch? I always thought, the black extension of the ribbon is simply there, to provide stability for the orange touch sensor you solder onto. But in your video it seems that the black thingy is a touch sensor by itself already. I'm confused. What does the orange thing do then? Also in this video you didn't clip all the extensions of the cartridge slot on the mainboard. Is it because you had clipped them in an earlier mod or is it not necessary anymore with the newer Screenkits? Also in other videos people are putting the small tape on the mainboard to cover all the clipped points so that they don't make contact with the ribbon cable. Is that not necessary? I'd really like to hear your feedback because I'm close to doing my own mod. I already have all the parts but now, after watching your video, I feel insecure about the right way to do it. Too bad funnyplaying does not provide better instrcutions.

  14. ON MINE THAT ONLY HAS THE Q5 2.6 SCREEN AND THE EVERDRIVE EZFLASH, WHEN TURNING ON WITH NEW CHARGED BATTERIES, IT ONLY WORKS IF THE BRIGHTNESS IS AT MINIMUM, IF IT INCREASES IT IT ALREADY STARTS RESTART IN LOOP. SOME TIP

  15. Hi. Thanks for the tutorial.
Let me point out a couple of things, since I just follow the tutorial at key moments, and I didn't listen to everything you said:
    1. Front sticker: Are you sure the correct position is the one you chose? In that area of the console there is no metal parts, so it doesn't need to be isolated. If you placed it for design purposes, sorry about this comment.
    2. Touchpad. The position at 28.20 works for me, without soldering anything.
    Cheers.
