  1. Wow, so much hate for this game.
I don't get the bitching about setpieces at all when we just came out of devil may cry 4 where you just wander from overground church with adjecent 2 streets of victorian town stuff into 1 dark room with western style houses for 1 fight into Irithill than monster hunter ruins into underground lair behind a floating tower. Feels like you search for new points because everything else is said.
Journalists like the game because you have to play for at least a while to make a review, so they by default had to get past the tone and just enjoy a good game after that. Happens alot in the industry.

  2. If I hear one more time that dmc Dante is the "preferred" Dante for the ladies I'm gonna stinger myself in the face. Listen, I'm old, and I've liked Dante since bloody 2001 or whenever it was. Give me DMC4 Dante or give me death (or grandpa Dante too, I guess?). …Sorry but I just had the unstoppable urge to say this, as you were.

  3. …I am eight minutes into this video. We have not reached gameplay yet. And somehow, I already hate it. Somehow, they have managed to cram in enough detestable garbage, between cursing just to be edgy, and the hookers, and Dante and that bald man I assume is supposed to be Mundus as a corporate CEO and

Fuck this game already is what I'm saying

  4. Every now and then I experience so much joy playing DMC5 I actually forget the franchise nearly ended with this.
So I re-watch this let's play today. So I may never forget the despair I felt during those dark, Tauntless, Unstylish days.

  5. When the trailers started dropping, particularly the "Who are you?" "I'm Dante" trailer, I thought Donte was a mentally deranged person, maybe because of a demon, who thought he was Dante, son of Sparda, and then the real pizzaman would come on stage at some point and we'd get some heart-to-heart or something. Instead, we got Donte and Macbeth.

  6. Oh my lord I just realized not only did Force Edge get a redesign and was used for Sword Illusion in VD and didn't get an actual Force Edge but they made Sparda look like a joke before that game and it sounds like they said "Sparda is going to be a loser in our game and you won't get the legendary Force Edge your beloved franchise gives to a dumb human sword, be happy Rebellion gives the ability to transform because we gave you that." and that just amplifies my disdain against this game.

  7. so the hypothetical that woolie posed at the beginning of this episode was almost me when I got into the series the only thing that saved me was that I knew what Dante looked like and I knew there was a reboot that was bad so when I went to family video to see if there was a cope to rent my dad went "devil may cry its right hear" and was pointing to this game and we would have rented it if I did not know about the reboot ahead of time

  8. I know it may take a while for them to get to this part, but can anyone tell any good reason why anyone should ever have to hold one of the trigger buttons to use a weapon consistently? Keep in mind you can always press the trigger to charge weapons and press yet another time to change back.

  9. I was always conflicted with this one, both before it came out and after watching my roommate play it, on one hand I don't like it nearly as much as the mainline Devil May Cry games (a lot of it does have to do with this more "western" Dante) yet on the other hand I think if it was more of a Tony Redgrave game (like maybe a take on the Novel of DMC) maybe my feelings toward the game would be different, don't know if I would still like it as much though.

  10. So this was the first dmc game I ever played and I am always going to have a soft spot for it; needless edge aside I quite like a fair amount of its design both in terms of gameplay and art direction.

  11. "Definitive" in this case meaning "we removed the fedora and made the controls theoretically playable".

This is an alright game on its own but it's a terrible Devil May Cry. If this game had been its own IP I think it might have been the start of its own series. But it was never going to fly with the DMC audience as a DMC title.

EDIT: Ah. Right. They say the same thing later in.

  12. Wish they still would have made the "Definitive Edition" for PC too, even if it was just the original version with some good fan mods in. I don't like the idea of downloading pc game mods that could be from sketchy sources.

  13. So, a lot of people credit Bayonetta for pioneering a variety of things in character action games, from the enemy introduction panels, to a dedicated dodge button with special properties, to the concept of an unseen "another world" where the real action happens, but we forget that many of those things actually originated in Okami… which makes sense, as Bayo was made by mostly the same team, and therefore Bayo would refine those things.
