Which training pack was that at the beginning there?
LMAO at that Anchor Man refrence!! xD
To your Silver III friend I would say learning positioning, reads, patience, and to resist the urge to ball chase are the four most important skills at that rank – maybe any rank. I'm around the same level and it's a major problem when I find myself sitting in goal, wishing I could come out for a clear, but both of my teammates are committed to the corner and refusing to rotate out even though they have no good angles on the ball.
As for mechanics, the thing that has helped me the most is grinding dribbles and catches. You may not get a lot of chances to slow the play down (especially when you have to fight your ball-chasing teammates for possession of the ball – positioning, remember?), but you can often catch people off guard when you kill the ball rather than going for the boomer, which is generally all anyone knows how to do at that level – if they know that. Besides that, learning dribbling is a great way to improve ball control. Learn it until you can take your eyes off the ball and see what the other players are doing. If you're on PC, get "Dribbling Challenge #2" from the steam workshop and work at it about 20 minutes a day to improve dribbling really fast. It's not easy, but you'll be amazed at how fast you improve – of course, you need to know how to get the ball on your roof to be able to get anywhere with it.
Learning all the recovery mechanics early is also immensely beneficial. Nobody expects a silver or even a gold to execute a perfect half-flip or to recover instantly from a bump. Learning to hold the powerslide button to maintain momentum, preserve boost, and achieve better positioning is another one.
At lower priority in the early game, mix in aerial car control – look up Kevpert's tutorials on the subject. It's a good idea to work on this, but be very careful when you decide to use it in game. If you're the third man back, don't be an idiot like the rest of us and commit to a difficult aerial that is way outside your comfort zone, whiff it, and give away a goal. It's not fun.
I've had a lot of fun learning this game and I'm still terrible. I spend way more time in free play than I do in games, so recently I've realized my mechanical skill has far outpaced my "game-sense" and I've had to play more to learn how and when to apply my newfound abilities. It caused me to drop back to Silver III as I made mistakes while thinking about the game too much – it introduced hesitation, which is the biggest enemy of a RL player. I've come to realize the game has to be played by instinct. You have to become confident enough to "feel it."

Great series, by the way. I hope you're still doing these. It's been very helpful seeing someone make the same low level mistakes I do.
You should stream
I'm champ in 2v2, 3v3, and solo standard. If you'd like we can play together and get you diamond wins
I’m currently plat 1 and your gameplay looks better than mine and if I tried to commentate nearly this much I’d be back to silver
Gate keeping because I can't game at night? How dare you? I'm an adult with a job, and I have to wake up at 5AM. So what if I play Rocket League at 3PM?
Your positioning is pretty good. go to freeplay and just try to boom every ball. You will learn how to read those balls and how to manipulate your car if they do have a second touch. Also boost a little bit to get speed after getting boost. That way when you need it later, you always have momentum.
Don’t get how you got in plat
HAHAHAHAHA
