Are Super Smash TV or Total Carnage Worth Playing Today? – SNESdrunk

This game is so much fun to play. I don't understand why more SNES or even Playstation games didn't copy this control scheme.

Funny fact, "Running Man" was very, very loosly based on a book… If memory serves correctly, it was a short story by Stephen King. I'm sure the author didn't make a cent off this game.

Super Smash TV was a awesome arcade port on Snes that I enjoyed playing even I play Arcade vision at Galloping Ghost Arcade.

Fun tidbit regarding the NES version of Smash TV. You could actually plug in two controllers and hold them vertically to use both D-pads the same way as the arcade controls. With a multi-tap adapter, you could use 4 controllers so that the 2nd player can use the same setup.

This was a great game, and not even normally my style.

games back then had so much variety and unique ideas. Its really missing from modern gaming IMO where most games are spins or clones of other ones.

SMASH TV absolutely is. Still great fun even to this day. And it utterly wipes the floor with the Genesis version, across the board. Not a fan of Total Carnage though, and I think they could have done a much better job on SNES there. To be fair, it's the pixel art that lets it down more than anything else for me, which just isn't as refined as Smash TV's art was on SNES. Honestly, it looks more like a first generation Genesis game than a game that's doing anything to take advantage of the SNES' large amount of colours and so on, especially in the backgrounds.

My brother and I used to rent this a lot because of the co-ops. Always had to get at least one when you rented from Blockbuster.

I used to play both of these a ton. Total Carnage at my friends house on snes and Smash TV on midway arcade treasures on the gamecube.

Don't anyone think it's about tume software house stopped sticking gratultouos "Supers" in front of the title of every single Super NES game" It's getting really tedious, and in this game it's also completely meaningless as well, since "Super" Smash T.V. is in no way differnt or improved from plain old Smash T.V., the arcade and NES games. One of the earliest examples of a nearly flawless arcade adaptation was Super Smash T.V. (referred to by its original name within the game), released in 1992 and is Acclaim's home version of the remake/update to the NES and the Williams co-op arcade game Smash T.V. (1990). Smash TV is based on the same vein style of play as the old arcade game Robotron 2084 that was released in 1982. It is multrdirectional futuristic action game developed by Beam Software Set in the year of 1999, it depicts a violent futuristic gameshow, the top-rated show is Smash T.V. (not "Super" Smash T.V., funnily enough). Therefore very, very similar. The Super NES controller's Control Pad and four face buttons, A, B, X and Y, easily make it a perfect match/replicated the arcade machine's twin dual-joystick controls of the original, and the hardware had no trouble packing the screen with countless enemies, mutant cyborgs, pulverize club wielding mechanoids, power-ups, 70 tons of Mutoid Man, and projectiles, even in two-player co-op mode. The Super NES version also contains additional secret rooms. Some of the soundtracks while playing the game are great. They are mostly all very catchy, especially the intro tune. I really liked the sampled speech, but it’s a nice touch. The graphics are great. But for a Super Nintendo game of 1991/1992, it’s good. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who likes arcade games or game styles from the Super NES-era. Despite adding the name Super to the title, Super Smash T.V. isn't really much more than a port of the arcade hit, albeit a faithful one. It was a much better substitute to the arcade version than the NES version. For sheer thrill-power, Super Smash T.V. is probably the best Super NES game since Super Mario World. A great game is a necessary component in the Super NES library.

I spent hours and hours "Super Smashing" this game back in the day. One of the greats.
