  1. Completely disagree. There is always going to be a group of pokemon that does something the best. Even when there were more tailwind users the differences in viability were still obvious. By exempting tailwind from dynamic speed tiers you're heading down a path to get rid of one of the best mechanic updates in pokemon. Since you dislike prankster tailwind, find a counter. This will encourage a counter to be found for your counter, and that pattern will continue and be known as growth.

  2. A lot of people here completely missing what I'm saying and replying with "just find a counter".
I dont have an issue with the power prankster tailwind provides a team. I dont have an issue with dynamic speed tiers, in fact I praise them and say to keep them in the vid.
My issue is that tailwind can only effectively be used by 2 pokemon this generation where in previous generations it was a tool that a wide variety of pokemon could viable use. The prankster mons getting 4 turns of benefit rather than the 3 the others get make using non-prankster tailwind a distinct disadvantage. That's what I'm discussing here. I'd be fine with solutions that even make tailwind a priority move for all mons if it means these pokemon regain a tool they used to have.

  3. Now that poses the question: Should we apply the same concept on paralysis then as well? Cotton Spore? String Shot? All status moves, lower opponents speed, get prankster boost.

  4. Another problem with priority Tailwind can be the priority Tailwind mirror. Both Torn and Cott get access to Taunt. We've seen two players lead their Whimsicotts and at least someone risks winning the Turn 1 speed tie to try to Taunt/stop the opposing Tailwind. That's not really healthy for the game.

  5. Making prankster tailwind not have a boosted priority bracket could help alleviate this issue. The mons like whim and torn that are naturally fast could still potentially give their partner an extra turn of TW, but it’s not guaranteed to go first.

  6. I think prankster itself should be nerfed to be honest. Currently most of the top 10 non-restricted pokemon either more than 150 speed or good priority moves, that's crazy and extremely unfair for non-priority users. Also prankster users have so many options this gen, like t-wave, fake tears screens or trick, it's very hard to account for them all aside from using a dark type.

  7. I honestly think that Tornadus and Thunderus should both be stripped from the Prankster ability. Other than that, negative priority might be a sensible solution with the new speed dynamics. (this issue isn't different from Electroweb Regieleki, right?)

  8. What i would do is actually decrease the boost Tailwind applies to its side. Considering it straight up doubles its sides Speed for 4 whole turns, maybe a boost of only 1.5 could make it slightly more balanced? And probably also increase the amount of Mons that get Tailwind that could be better than Tornadus or Whimsicott, and add one that might be able to be a form of competition for the Tailwind slot, its still fast but also bulky, but a lot more support-oriented than Tornadus and Whimsicott and not too offensive

  9. Hot take – keep prankster tailwind and dynamic speed. How do you adjust Tailwind? Make it to where the turn you use tailwind, make text say “a rush of wind is approaching”, and make the speed boost not apply until the turns following the use of tailwind. If you want to get the speed boost immediately sure you can use the herb and then make the pokémon enabled by acrobatics, but now you at least sacrifice something for instant tailwind

  10. Crazy idea but what if priority tailwind gets nerfed/buffed. If tailwind is priority it gets one less turn instead of 4 it’s 3 and no priority tailwind gets buffed to 5 or stays the same.

  11. I'm pretty sure I said the same thing in the twitter poll, tailwind feels underwhelming with non prankster pokemon because of dynamax, as a mechanic it incentivises hyper offensiveness and you need to abuse those 3 turns as much as possible, slow methodical games that can be turned on their head with a last ditch tailwind set up by a bulky pokemon are simply not happening because of dynamax

Also, distribution, all the bulky tailwind pokemon just hard loses against eleki so you need prankster setter and some of the possible bulky pokemon that could take an attack from it lost tailwind (zapdos, salamence etc)

Tailwind is objectively better on prankster pokemon, but in gen 9 it won't have a monopoly unless the new mechanic is focused on hyper offense like dynamax

  12. 100% agree on you with this, I'm not sure what exact changes could be made but I hate that tailwind went from being a premium but accessible tool you can consider slotting into offensive mons to literally just 2 dedicated supports

  13. A lot of people have already said my immediate thought which is adding it to negative priority. I think this would make Prankster mons even more interesting due to the user asking themselves if they'd rather waste a spot with speed control, or use Prankster to its fullest ability by using support/tech moves that benefit from it. I immediately think of the versatility of Grimmsnarl, a super useful Prankster mon with a good move pool that can have speed control outside of having Tailwind.

  14. here is an idea for a fix for tailwind without completely neutering prankster tailwind (but still can be countered), its also pretty simple.
"make it -1 priority", that's all.
this means bulky setters can still just survive the turn to set it but prankster pokemon only have a slight advantage if it becoming neutral priority after prankster.
this means that it has counterplay because 1) since prankster pokemon only get neutral priority on tailwind they still need to outspeed their threats without dying (the koko/eleki example with tornadus), and 2) it ironically opens them up to apposing prankster pokemon using taunt with +1 priority and neutralizing your setter's neutral priority tailwind. (it would create tornadus/whimsicott mirror matches kinda like fake-out mirror matches that happened a lot before dynamax said "no flinching")

  15. Honestly rather than changing tailwind, i think the more healthy way to change is its interaction with prankster. Imo that comes in 2 forms
    1) Don't give tailwind priority from prankster
    2) Make tailwinds speed bonus reduced when paired with prankster.

While i personally like the second oje more, as it'd become a teambuilding option, I dont know enough details off the top of my head to know how viable that is to code with how the game handles stat changes. If it was percential based, i'd like to see its current boost reduced by 50-66% of its current bonus (1.3x – 1.5x speed) while paired. If its calculated by adding +2 on the speed stat in the games calculations, just having the pair reduced to a +1 would be similar.

The hope would be to keep the move relivant, not nerf it for all the non prankster mons, but close the gap in viability between the two groups of mons

  16. Congrats 🥳

    My suggestion for tailwind:
Make the first turn a “charge”-like turn, but where power herb cant help it. I think that way all 4 turns of extra speed could be kept. Making it a total of 5 turns, kinda like weather conditions.

I like the dynamic speed stats as they are now, it makes more sense like this than how it was before. I would like to see tailwind again, although less broken.

  17. imo the best way to solve the tailwind problem is to make it last 5 turns but -6 priority (like Trick Room). This way prankster has basically no effect on it and all setters get for turns of tailwind. Alternatively it could still last 4 turns so that every setter gets three

  18. Not sure if this is a complaint for singles only, because once dynamax is gone prankster tailwind is going to not be a problem with fake out becoming amazing again at all times.

  19. I never thought of this since I like immediate speed control. Realizibg how much I struggle against tailwind, it does need a nerf. My only solution is bring back the old tailwind.

Update: Have not even seen the full video and yeah we have the same idea.

  20. The problem isnt tailwind, the problem is prankster, prankster pokemon need to have a more limited movepool than other support becose priority is a broken characteristic, and thats why things like talonflame was nerfed and dark types was buffed in gen 7, now whimsicott for much i love him, deserve lost prankster

  21. i agree with the problem but not with the solution, i would prefer that turns were counted like sleep does: if tw is used after your other pkmn attacked, the counter start from next turn because noone actually used it, if you use tw and attack than you already used a turn
this will create 2 cases: u can use it fast but for the first turn only one pokemon use it (like now), or use it slow allowing the setter itself to use it for full four turns
