Tbh if you guys are dying to rets then it's a learn to play issue.
Why?
Because they're coming at you with these big Golden wings which is literally announcing to the world that they're gonna kill you.
So pop your defensives and wait it out.
After their wings is over, they seriously hit like wet noodles.
Almost all classes have one shot capability, ppl just don't like ret because they're used to ret sucking and being a free kill. Ret itself is not powerful, it's these borrowed power systems that's powerful.
And this is coming from a DK

I only play Paladin and mainly Ret(never holy)and the main problem with Ret offensively isn't Divine Toll, its Seraphim. Seraphim is essentially what Holy Avenger use to be in MoP and Wod. But on a 45 second CD, rather than a 2min CD. All the while still being just a if not more stupidity overpowered in the boost to damge it gives(something I've always been against). With the biggest difference being Seraphim is on a much short CD and Ret now has Multiple high damage instant cast abilities on a similar CD. Giving very little chances to counter it. Unlike the Holy Avenger/wings combo during MoP and WoD. Which could be counted more readily due to the longer CD and the lack of high damage instant cast abilities like Divine Toll(nor all the damage multiplies on top). Plus Ret's damage wasn't completely front loaded into Templar's Verdict like it is now.
Problem is Ret needs this stupidly overpowered burst, all classes do. Why? Because healers are that stupidity op you need insane levels of CC and burst instantly or no one will die. All because they decided(when putting in RBGs) that healers shouldn't be killable 1v1. Then gave them the healing power to keep someone up with a whole BG team focusing them.
And now this has become the meta. Requiring ever more stupid amounts of healing, CC, and Burst. Till its now become who ever hits their I win button combinations first.
