  1. Great review, really appreciate the in depth information which has been lacking from other vids… Definitely a shame it doesn't do actual amiga emulation well but like you say there's plenty of other options… That said I still want one as they look amazing!!!

    waits for sales…

  2. The execution and ethics fall a bit short but for a first iteration this really isn't too bad.

What brings EmuChicken-sized tears to my eyes is the fact that a third party has managed to pull this off while the legal battle rages on to determine who controls the actual Amiga IP. We live in an era where the market value of retro technology has exploded and yet the best we can do is put pass off a not-quite-Amiga "A500" offering?

If you thought legal squabbling couldn't get any more exasperating than the Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard case, take a look at the Cloanto v. Hyperion squabble. It's really tragic that such a highly regarded platform has been relegated to irrelevance.

  3. I had a similar experience on how getting my A500. My parents picked me up from school, which was already strange as they never did before, I always took the bus. Then we drove to the computer shop, strangely they were just called like that in the 80s, and I was still puzzled, but once inside my parents told me that they would buy me the Amiga 😱 Plus I got it together with the Commodore 1084s, I was wowed. Coming from the C64 this was a dream come true, one of the best memories of my life, still.

  4. Emulation with Raspberry Pi 400 are superior. Pi 400 have better hardware, better price too and don't forget I can run all workbenchs SO versions and programs too. I can run too all Amiga models like 500, 600, 2000, 3000, 1200 and run too all adf or whdload games.

  5. 16:18 There also exists the DB9 Universal Joystick Adapter from Retronic Design. This adapter allows you to use your Amiga joysticks on the A500 Mini. Retronic Design had recently launched a mod for the adapter’s Amiga firmware that would allow you to use your original C64 and Amiga joysticks with the proper button mapping. There is also a firmware to use the Amiga mouse with the adapter as well.

  6. Somewhat surprised it's that underpowered. Especially considering loading your own games onto it is probably one of the biggest feature. I get the emulator having a few bugs, but that can be patched at some point. At least have the power to run the library. I'll probably pick it up at some point, but certainly not at that price.

  7. You did talk about editing .uae config but no mention of enabling expert mode in the menu where you can edit things like jit, memory, blitter, copper. mess with gamepad/joystick ports and mappings etc. editing those will have an effect on stuff you know? 😀

  8. could u put a link and names of the controllers that works fine with it and which to use for lowest input lag ? im not into soldering and cant do with the kit u shown us.

  9. Best review (and most honest and in-depth) I have seen, about this device, on the tube! I was thinking about buying it (I am using a Firestick for Amiga emulation and some added games glich a lot), but after I saw the A500 mini performance, with some added games, i have to sadly rethink about my purchase! Thanks a lot!

  10. Thanks for a good review and teardown… I must have waded through hours of content to get what I needed in 20mins! Although it is underpowered I am drawn to the case design. I think I have an idea of what to do…
