idk if i agree with this here. worst case scenario that’s the best position to be in. if they clear that ball and you’re up that far and miss, no one is back to defend the net. unless your tm8 is already rotating back, there’s no reason to go
It's not a matter of playing defense against the other team. He's staying back because the first and second man are almost certainly morons and will not let him play the ball if he comes in.
So where is the alternative positioning?

people arguing that the other two are up so his positioning is correct- he could still push slightly farther upfield and be able to get back in time to play defense as well. positioning is everything

This annoys me because I've been told to stay back and cover mid field while simultaneously being told to be closer to take shots. You can't do both at the same time.

If he is Solo Q then he is in the right position, if he is queued with friends he can play up more since they have communication

Well in reality not every player can camp in that area. Someone has to work down low to give that opportunity to those who are waiting to score or protect a rush to your end of the net.
Lot of trust issues here from people, yes people cant be trusted especially in lower ranks. But you all wont get anywhere in the game with that mentality of not putting yourself in less comfortable areas.
I love how the player he's coaching does in fact go for the ball as it's cleared, but the video cuts before that. In reality, had he been pushed up that far, there's no shot he gets up in time to cut that ball off and the other team is likely scoring on an open net. I think he was in the right position. Imo, blackndwight is pushed up too far and should be covering the area Luke is talking about.
But oh boy when the worst case scenario comes true be ready for a shitload of toxicity.
Idk, you can clearly see in the last frame he is positioned well for the first touch the defender makes. Both his teammates are overextended. In this exact situation, in a solo queue, he is in the right spot.
