Regarding SBMM, it’s actually conceptually beneficial in gaming. The issue with it though is that in a lot of modern multiplayer games, it is too strict, especially in unranked modes and playlists and without a visible MMR to see. There’s a lack of variety in a lot of matches because of it (specifically that you constantly play against what the game assumes to be on par with your skill level), sometimes quality internet connection gets sacrificed, and it can be hard to recognize if you’re improving. In fact, skilled players are actually negatively affected by it. Additionally, SBMM is meant for unskilled players which is understandable as playing against skilled players can be scary and discouraging.
Regarding the freedom of speech and cancel-culture discussion, I agree with BG and Taarec. I understand what Smoove, Alex, Wonton, Tic, Blaze and Addict were saying. However, BG and Taarec also agree that the same energy needs to be kept, which is a different matter. Most importantly, some people who point to freedom of speech after being “cancelled” and moderated for their actions do not keep the same energy themselves and just want to control and abuse it. Also, of course Kanye and Kyrie are not politicians, but they deliberately chose to partake in politics with the big followings they have and with how they have done so recently, it’s understandable why they caught flak. Furthermore, I may not agree but it’s in the best interests of corporations to maintain their respective positive reputations over anything else.
