Yes its damn good !
Champion Pub is good, really good.
thanks Greg , I think Zen is getting better . love the 3 new tables . Champion Pub knocked my socks off with it`s lighting . yep I agree more animations on TOM was needed , I hope they can go tropo on animations in the future . Zen please more animations .
I noticed right off the back they got the perspective wrong on TOM in cabinet mode and it's something I'm struggling to get right as well. You should be able to see more of the front of the chest and less of the top and also, you should not be able to see the upper lanes behind the pop bumpers which is why the machine has a mirror there in the first place. To be honest I'm not sure I'll be able to do any better with the perspective on VP.
My thoughts: I think Zen is doing great things, with some improvements needed.
I have my own quibbles: some of the enhanced-mode decisions are questionable, and it would be nice to have some options to selectively enable certain elements. And the choice of tables has been dodgy (who asked for Junk Yard or Party Zone?) And after a brief bout of Glasnost, Zen may be reverting to form in terms of secrecy, closed-shop communications etc.
But, overall, I'll take this over Farsight's work any day. It's night and day. I had all but abandoned digital pinball until Zen got this license.
As for the extras, well I think Zen's main focus is to get these tables out to the most people possible with a very high level of quality and polish.
The extras really are… extras. There's VR and all that entails, cabinet support, lighting support, cabinet views etc. And that really is a rabbit hole. (Everyone ones different things from a cabinet mode, including new camera angles, fixed cameras, free-floating cameras, different animations for different views, etc. etc.)
And right now, both VR and cabinet support aren't just niche… they represent a tiny fraction of the overall user base. A growing fraction, certainly, but still a fraction. And I think Zen know this from their own analytics.
So, to me, it's understandable why Zen would have those things as a second priority. (The fact that they're a priority at all is pretty amazing, really.)
Anyway, you're also doing great job Spacey. Thanks for sharing these videos with us.
Greg, it's very likely that your impression of the lighting dynamics will improve once you have a more capable playfield display. When I moved from a decent 1080p display to a higher contrast 4K display it made a dramatic difference (resolution aside). Also wanted to say I really enjoy your videos (a true passion for the hobby).
Played champ pub @ Mandurah and game city back when they were at the train station fun game.
Champion Pub looks great. Seems like an easy solution for the ball speed would be to give it some advanced option in game to adjust the weight and let the community sort it out for suggestions on speed for certain tables.
Love what Zen is doing, but absolutely agree that dynamic and ambient lighting “aren’t quite there.”
I feel there is something off with Zen's physics and the gameplay in general. When I play for example Adams Family by 3rdaxis, g5k and company, I feel that I am playing pinball, I just can't stop playing. It is 1996 again and I am back in the pub with my friends. Zen's tables on the other hand feel like a video game, and after a few minutes playing I rather do something else. TOM is my all time favourite table, but I have to say that I feel a bit disappointed with this version. I can't see myself spending much time on it. I will continue supporting Zen, but I hope they continue improving these tables because in my opinion there is something important missing here. Thanks for another great video Spacies!
Sorry bur the overall lightning does need lots of work, as do their other tables. Just look at Zaccaria Pinball, now thats lightning. Even TPA dx11 has better overall lightning and flashing. Instead of putting al their time in a money sucking Mobile version, witch is why this pack was delayed, concentrate on a BIG visual factor… lightning!
il be checking this out for sure
have you ever got evil dead running with p-roc ??
A comparison video would be so interesting, you really articulate all the good and bad things well and I find myself nodding in agreement.
Thanks for the video 👍
I love all the work they do, and I am also that guy in the forums constantly asking for cab updates. I can't wait for any word on an update. Keep up the great work on the channel!
When you hear the fly buzz on champion's pub hit the launch button and it'll bank a smart punch. When the coach tells you to punch his face during a fight hit the launch button to use a smart punch and win the fight.
Another great video Gregg, It’s interesting that your not loving the TOM , do you think you may have enjoyed it more if you didn’t have the real game? Have you tried the tables on IOS yet? I’m finding the GI lighting is much darker than on Steam, also on TOM i’ve had the ball literally fly up & across the screen out of the Spirit ring this has happen a few times! I hope your right about more cab support coming after a few more table packs. I’m sure cab builders & vertigo owners etc are growing & sure most people be happy to pay Zen for more support.
Did the real DMD work for these new FX3 games or do we need to wait for another update from the Freezy DMD guy? Thanks
Nice to see you back, I used to love playing Champion Pub on my iPad, it really comes alive on your cab. I really want to see this other video game you bought and broke 🙂 – Looking forward to the next video.
Is there a email to reach you?, I would have a couple of questions about your VP.
Thx
Stef
That Champion Pub is a great table. Would really be interesting to see a comparison with the VPX version!
SPACIES! Good to be back! Life and Serious illness took me away over the last 6 months. But I'm back and in full recovery. I did watch your vids every moment I got as a source of comfort. Thanks so much for that and all you have been doing!
You know what's also odd, is the fact that the aiming differs a bit from each different camera position. Some views tend to be very hard to hit a tight right loop start, while an other view gives a more "easy" access to the same loop on the same table. Also, loop ball exits are also affected by this phenomenon. Off course, all you playing in cabinet style with a top-view will never encounter this, cause you use this view for obvious reasons. Just play the game awhile in desktop view and play with the camera-views, play certain shots over and over again and see what I mean. I'm now using camera nr.5, for WIlliams/Bally tables only, cause I find nr.5 like the best for ball-control in all situations. Also, give us some more nudge control, like TPA has, and use it only in normal single player and use the "Reality" nudge in the option "Original – Arcade / Tournament".
Very good video.I love pinball machines. Theatre of Magic is a great table.Have you played Big Guns from Williams?
In my opinion, this table has the best music and sound effects in the eighties.Greetings for you.
Totally agree with you about the lights and flashers. Backlights and playfield lights are too bright. Flashers are very very weak comparing to a real machine and pinball is all about flashing lights.
We gave this tips earlier to Zen Pinball but sadly i don't see a change. For the rest, i love playing this pack!
Gregg, i made a new message for Zen Studios on their Youtube channel asking about any lights/flashers updates. Hope i/we can get a reaction soon about these issues. Regards from the Betherlands!
Hi everyone, and Gregg!
First of all, fantastic catch at 12:55.
It is great to have these discussions under these Spacies Arcade videos. Thank you everyone who participates and for Gregg who always initiates the discussion.
Glad you like the tables of Volume 3, and we are constantly monitoring the requests that are coming in and trying to put together future packs based on that. Volume 3 is a child of this as well, Theatre of Magic was probably the most requested table since we started working with the Williams Bally license.
In regards of cabinet mode – we have been making :O faces because of the amount of new cabinet players who arrived recently. It is awesome to see more and more people starting to get more deeply into digital pinball.
We will take another look at the Theatre of Magic loop that some of you mentioned along Gregg – there should be something we can do about that.
A lot of community members gave us very good feedback and suggestions on the lighting options. What we've seen is that there are some tables like The Champion Pub and The Party Zone where we seemed to captured it well and some that might need a little tweaking – we hope to have these at some point.
We are very grateful to have everyone take part in the life of the game and the studio.
Akos from Zen
Cool Stuff…!! Where did you get the Press Start DMD Vid..??
Been into VPX now, since FX3 began to release Williams/Bally tables. I must admit that VPX is better than FX3. I play in desktop version only, so I make my own VPX desktop version of every table for personal use. The DMD window in FX3 is awful, poor overall DMD layout and coloring, compared to what is possible with VPX! Don't get me wrong, FX3 is great, but VPX has the edge for me personally. The guys n the VPX community are real artists to re-create a table with such precision.
