  1. Ooh, here's an interesting tech option should you run this again: Tri Attack. Buyable in Celadon so you don't lose time, only 5 BP weaker than Body Slam which is a staple on even many special attackers for getting by Psychic-types, and Starmie has a respectable Attack stat of 75. Obviously you have to weigh that against giving up badge boosts, but it's worth a note.

  2. I think your rationale is fair, but if you are worried about fairness between Machamp and Starmie, is running Machamp back some sort of dealbreaker? I am thinking along the lines of a rematch clause by the former Champ.

  3. Yeah, I found you through jrose. I wanted to see how well starmie does, found out jrose didn't have a video, but yours was recommended! Very cool to see you did one and glad I found you.

Side note, I personally don't mind you replaying runs to get the best possible time. I wanna see the best possible times for the tier lists.

  4. Starmie is, by far, an excellent pokémon. It's one of the very best out there (even for nowadays generation): it has excellent speed, awesome special [attack] and outstanding movepool: STAB Surf and Psychic are great assets. Not to mention the capability to learn Ice Beam and Thunderbolt. For sure, a great pokémon.

  5. i faced the same dilemma with Surf in my Fr/Lg run with Nidoking. It was great for Blaine but nothing else, so i didnt teach it. Surf has more PP but I agree that it wasn't necessary here.

  6. You murdered Koga? After you kicked Bruno's head in with Machamp nothing surprises me.

Good to see you do Starmie justice, it's a monster in Gen 1. The writers of Season 1 of the Pokemon anime really hated Starmie, be it Misty's Starmie or that Starmie on the S.S Anne that loses to Raticate. Starmie consistently jobbed in every battle it was in.

  7. Thanks for doing my all time favorite: Starmie. It did as well as I suspected. With better starting moves It maybe could've gotten close to mewto.
Would you be interested in a Starmie run with gen 2 tutored moves? Starmie could start with thunderbolt and ice beam. Both moves would make the early game woes of this run trivial.

  8. I did Starmie gotta say it's REALLY easy. You got an advantage to the first two gyms early on and because of it's high speed you get crits gallore and high special. Also one of it's only moves that it starts with Harden will make the later parts of the game easy as well. I pretty much saved Thunder Bolt for later btw. What I did was save Thunder Bolt and Blizzard for the E4 and Champion and use Ice Beam for my Third Move after BubbleBeam/Surf, Psychic for most of your run. My move set was BubbleBeam/Surf, Psychic, Ice Beam, Harden. Then during E4 I replaced IceBeam with Tbolt, after Agatha I replace Psychic with Blizzard and you should be good. I did not need to use any Rare Candies and other than using all my money for Carbos and Calcium I didnt do anything else. I was seriously thinking of not using Surf btw but I wanted that 4x weakness against Rocks and 2x with Blaine and Rival Arcanine. And after Agatha you dont need Psychic anymore.

PS. YES THAT JR TRAINER WAS THE HARDEST IN MY RUN AS WELL!

  9. I think Surf would have helped save time, and function as a tool to better blast down Alakazam, as it is also stab, 100 acc, solid damage, and it isn't resisted by psychic types. That or get a good physical move for the spoon fox.
    Edit*
Or the badge boost strat works too. I see you went that route.
